Dr. Peter Wallace
Day1
Atlanta, Georgia
As a college freshman my wife and I attended a small Methodist Church not far from the campus. During the Sunday morning Service of Worship, the pastor of the church would frequently call on a certain layman to offer a prayer. I was amazed with this man's choice of words and the fervor of his prayers. Not knowing much about Saints, I was sure this man was one in the making. Years later, I saw the former pastor and asked him about that layman. He said, "that man was the meanest man in church". But boy could he ever pray.
Being a Saint is not a goal which one deliberately pursues. It just happens. In spite of life's hardships and suffering, Sainthood is achieved without one even being aware of what is happening. A sweet, sweet spirit and a spirited desire to move on and up in spite of the struggle is the end result. People cannot help but notice the difference.
Thanks to Bishop Whitmore he has given us a timely subject with which to wrestle.
