After Morta shared his discovery with the medical
staff, things began to move quite quickly. The Pathology Lab was shortly
up and running, synthesizing the apparent Vhorani / Gorn
antibody.
An antibody! A wonderful little bundle of joy
antibody!
"WEEEEEE-haw!!!" Damien exclaimed to nobody in
particular. Given the near dust-up between the Captain and Leigha, it
had been quite correctly determined that they could due without the Assistant
Counselor's Medical assistance. Captain Anderson was going to need to be
surgically removed from Saveron's arms at this rate, and Damien didn't
particularly want to have to drop his Commanding Officer like a bad habit for
taking a swing at the woman he loved.
Instead, the Acting First Officer
had done his best to cajole, beg, and plead Leigha into an unused Isolation
Unit. It had only worked on the condition that he enter the room first,
and go nowhere near the environmental controls.
She's carrying my
child... our child... Children? I distinctly remember thinking
about twins... I wonder if they run in her family? I could use a
good run.
His thoughts were racing, and so he decided to do the
same, running in place as hard as he could. reciting some of the earliest
Russian he remembered learning as a child outside of Saint
Petersburg.
"Bortprovidnitsa proveryayet moi bilyet... HEY!!!
Bortprovidnitsa proveryaye..."
"What did you say?" Leigha asked, confused by Damien
chanting in a language she didn't speak and that the universal translator
didn't seem to be picking up either.
"Wazzat, Sugar
Bumps?" he said, a bit breathless. He didn't break stride in his in-situ
sprint, however.
"Why are you
running?" she asked, wishing her head wasn't spinning. "And I
asked what that means?"
"Oh, lessee... 'The
stewardess checks my ticket'... I think," he replied. An instant
later, he dropped to the floor, planting his left arm firmly, and spinning
around on it, lifting his arm just long enough to let his legs pass
through. It had been years since he had done this particular Russian
dance, colloquially known as the 'coffee grinder', but it somehow seemed the
appropriate time and place.
"It's a pretty language, you
know... Not nearly as pretty as *you*, of course," he added, with
the Pressman lopsided grin.
Leigha couldn't resist that grin she began to giggle like a
girl. "Will you still think I'm pretty when I'm as big as a Vhorani
with pregnancy?" she asked, still blushing coyly. Coy was something Brown
didn't do, nor was shy... but it was apparently a virus that attacked the
impregnated just as actively as it did those without small beings growing
inside them.
"Of course I will," he said, rising
to a squat, and crossing his arms in front of his chest. He took turns
kicking one leg out, and then the other. "I can't believe I remember all
of these dances, still. I haven't done some of them since secondary
school... School... Riding a bicycle... Piloting a shuttle. We've
got so *many* great things to look forward to! This is
fan-TASTIC!"
Leigha
laughed. "I'd get down there and help you with all that, but i'm
sure I have an appointment elsewhere... you probably do
too!"
"Ooh, you're right, Sweetheart. I should be
doing something vaguely First Officerish, shouldn't I? The Captain's all
but snogging Savvy-Boy in the other room, so why don't my Best Girl and I mozy
on up to the Bridge? You can sit on my lap in the Big Chair!" he added
with a devilish wink.
Leigha
began to giggle uncontrollably. "In the Big Chair?" she squeaked, making
some sort of innuendo out of it and becoming totally overcome with hysterics
at her own very poor joke. "I'm gonna sit on your lap and you and I can
pilot this ship off into the stars!"
"Now
we're *talkin'*," he said, and the two made their way out through what
remained of the confusion in Main Sickbay.

"I have to admit, I like the pink," Damien said while
examining the turbolift walls. As the doors opened onto the Bridge, he
offered an extended arm to the lovely lady beside him.
"I'm going to have to get some new clothes when I
get bigger. Should I get pink things to wear if you like pink?" she
wondered out loud, not really expecting him to
answer.
She's going to look so cute pregnant.
Do we stay on the ship? I remember us being aboard the Rocheville
when she's all-but ready to pop. How can I remember that? This
whole thing is *really* confusing...
Noticing his frown, Leigha sidled up to him and stopped
giggling. "Whats the matter honey? Should I wear blue
instead? Or green?" Damien wasn't listening, he seemed
to be somewhere else inside him mind and he was looking at her but right
through her. She pouted and went marching over to the Big Chair he had
promised her.
"XO on the Bridge, peop... Nice paint job, everybody!" he
interrupted himself, admiring the multi-colored bulkheads. There
appeared to be a game of strip poker taking place on the deck between the Big
Chair and the Ops and Conn stations.
"Hey Damien.... wanna join us? You'll have to lose a couple
of items of clothing though, we're all a couple of rounds ahead... Oh I
didn't see your lady there... You wanna join in too, pretty one?" The
Security gold-clad CPO asked.
"I'll show Baby how good
of a card player Daddy is!" he exclaimed, seizing upon what seemed to be a
fabulous idea.
"No, I'll just
watch Damien beat everyone!" Leigha grinned from her throne.
"Go ahead, daddy... Baby and I are going to sit here and be proud of
you!"
"You're the best, babe," he said,
kissing her gently on the cheek. He then bent over and planted a similar
peck on her belly. "And so are you," he added.
"Now, who's
prepared to lose their shirts?!?"
...
Damien was down both duty
boots, one sock, and his duty jacket by the time Captain Anderson came onto
the Bridge. From the expression on her face, she had already been
treated with the antibody.
"Captain on the *Bridge*," he said,
scrambling to his feet, instead falling flat on his face. Determined to
make the best of the situation, he rose to a sitting position, and laid his
head gently in the lap of the Assistant Counselor, who, at his insistence, was
sitting in the Big Chair. ("You're sitting for two - or *three* -
afterall," had been his reasoning/)
In an instant, Chief Lamis had
abandoned the game, and was back at the Ops console.
"Mister Pressman... Miss Brown?" She tilted her head
and Leigha got out of the chair instantly. Ellie nodded approval for
this and then went on. "Everyone, I want this Bridge back in
an operational status in five minutes. Is that
clear?"
"Aye, Captain. Let's get this mess
cleaned up, people," he said after rising to his unsteady feet, gesturing
towards the stacks of discarded clothing and cards. He made no
indication towards the colored wall panels, which were now finally drying into
a lovely variety of shades and hues.
Damien managed to retrieve the
cast-off parts of his uniform, but not without the occasional giggle.
Lacking the coordination to actually put his sock *or* shoes back on properly,
he instead waiting uneasily until the Captain took the now-vacated Big Chair,
and sat to her left in the XO's seat.
Still feels weird. As if
finding out you're going to be a father by eavesdropping on Savvy Boy
isn't*?
"I take it Savvy.... er, Doctor Saveron managed to
symphonize the proper antigone?" Wait, that didn't come out
right...
Damien was too oblivious to notice that the CO's
expression seemed to flutter through a myriad of emotions at the mention of
the Vulcan Medical Officer.
The Captain clenched her fingers, and tried
once again to get someone in Engineering to give a proper report. Damien
did his best to look busy by drawing circles and smiley faces with his index
finger on the status display built into the left arm of his chair.
A
short while later, the doors to the turbolift opened, and the Very Vulcan
Veterinarian himself stepped out onto the Bridge.
