NOTICE

The Davis Square Task Force Organizing Committee has been asked by the attorneys for three restaurants applying for full liquor licenses (“all forms” licenses) to notify the Davis Square Task Force mailing list that they will appear before the regular monthly meeting of the Licensing Commission on Monday, August 17, at 6 p.m. at the TAB Building.  The three applicants, all of whom have done business in the Square, are:

Snappy Sushi (Attorney Robert D. Costello, 617-625-4322)

Taipei Tokyo (Attorney Adam Dash, 617-625-7373)

Out of the Blue (Attorney Isaac M. Machado, 617-625-6500)

The Licensing Commission asks applicants to consult with neighborhood groups and aldermen as part of the application process.  Normally, meetings with neighborhood groups take place prior to the appearance before the Licensing Commission and can greatly simplify the City’s review procedures.  In this case, however,  the licenses have been made available to the City by the Commonwealth on a first come, first served basis in between  our bi-monthly Task Force meetings.   The normal procedure will therefore be reversed: the three establishments have asked to be placed on the agenda for the September 14 Task Force Meeting, after their appearance before the Licensing Commission.

In addition, as previously announced, the Flatbread Company (Attorney Richard DiGirolamo 671-666-8200) will also apply for a full liquor license at the same August 17 Licensing Commission hearing.  This establishment, which is new to Davis Square, has appeared twice before the Task Force, and once at a special meeting for abuttors and neighbors.

Please contact the relevant attorneys with questions at the telephone or email addresses above.  The monthly meetings of the Licensing Commission are open to the public.  The three commission members, as Mr. Upton, the Chairman, stated at our previous Task Force meeting, welcome expression of views pro and con, as well as proposals for conditions to be attached to licenses.

I have been informed by the Commission’s new staff person, Jenneen Pagliaro, jpag...@somervillema.gov, 617-625-6600 ext. 4108, that these licenses differ from previous “all forms” licenses in that they are not owned by the licensees, and are not transferable.   Instead,  like the current wine and beer licenses they are awarded only to the current applicants and cannot be sold.  If they lapse for any reason, they are returned to  the City for redistribution.

For the DSTF Organizing Committee,

Lee
