Hi neighbors,

1. Week 2 recap

Thank you to everyone who came to Sunday's meeting to discuss the Board section.  We discussed ways we might ensure the DSNC Board represents and addresses the needs of various categories of people in Davis Square and how to avoid the DSNC falling too far into assumptions about any of those categories without actually knowing people from them.

We also discussed consolidating and finding compromises between the various proposals for handling vacancies on the Board.

Kudos to the valiant few who stuck it out with me through all or the better part of the 7 hours we spent on that!  You can see the updated text and list of differences in the 📝 the Bylaws Committee work-in-progress document (see the document “tabs” for the list of differences).  ((My brain is still a bit fried from the daylight savings change + Sunday's meeting + the Elm-Beacon Connector Open House, so if I missed anything, please let me know!))

2. Week 3?

Next up, we will discuss Committees/Working Groups.  I haven't seen as many contentious issues on this, so my hope is for that to be a substantially shorter discussion, possibly even with time to finish addressing some of the proposed amendments around Board elections we ran out of time for last week.

If you want to join the meeting about Committees/Working Groups, please fill out the poll at https://www.when2meet.com/?29340175-HvOzh by this Thursday!

For convenience, here are the links to the scheduling polls for the other topic meetings:
(Again, I know it says “Sign in” for each poll, but it isn't making an account; it just means put your name for that individual poll!)

3. Online discussion

Folks have also mentioned the need for a Dissolution article.  In the absence of any other amendments, I added text adapted from the USNC and GSNC bylaws.  In case we don't end up with enough time to discuss it at an in-person meeting,  I encourage folks with thoughts on that to discuss it in the document comments or here in the mailing list!  (I also encourage discussing other sections in the document comments—especially if you can't make it to the Bylaws Committee meetings and still want to be involved!)

Best regards,
Zachary Yaro

Hi all,

Sorry for the late notice.  Since there hasn't been a massive interest in specific topics besides the Board, I want to try to push through the first pass on those other topics this week so we can dedicate the final week to the sections that most need revisiting.  I hope it goes without saying you don't need to attend all these, and you are welcome to share your thoughts in advance!

1. Discussion about Committees/Working Groups

Since there hasn't been any activity on the scheduling polls, let's keep the usual time slot: discussing the bylaws regarding Committees/Working Groups this Sunday, the 16th, noon, Diesel Cafe.  As I said before, if we get through that quickly, we will finish addressing some of the proposed amendments around Board elections we ran out of time for last week; if the Committees/Working Groups discussion takes a few hours on its own, we will adjourn and keep that discussion asynchronous online.

2. Online discussion about Conduct/Ethics and other unaddressed topics

To try to involve folks who haven't been able to attend because of other weekend time commitments or inconvenience of meeting in person, I will plan to host an online meeting.  We will discuss the bylaws regarding Conduct/Ethics and any other topics folks who haven't made it to the in-person meetings want to weigh in on Monday, the 17th, from 6-9 P.M. at https://meet.google.com/jyw-avod-ekn.

3. Discussion about DSNC Meetings

Finally, we will discuss the bylaws regarding Meetings on Thursday, the 20th, from 6-9 P.M.  Location TBD—if the online format seems to work well, we will do that; if folks prefer the face-to-face format and there isn't much interest in online, we will meet in person.  Folks are welcome to reply to this message with preferences, and I will confirm the location in the follow-up email after Sunday and Monday's meetings.  In a sort of meta way, the meeting about Meetings seems a fitting way to end this week of experimenting with meeting formats.

Once again, you don't need to attend all three (though you are absolutely welcome to—obviously I will be!).  We look at everything folks have added in the 📝 proposed amendments document, so you can absolutely share and comment on either ideas or precise text you want in the bylaws there!  You can also chime in on the asynchronous discussions happening on 📝 the Bylaws Committee work-in-progress Bylaws document.

Halfway there! 💪😤

Best regards,
Zachary Yaro
