It is by now no secret that I have been waging an endless – and often fruitless – war against White Jewish Supremacy.
It is a very lonely position to be in.

It is worth noting before we discuss the article, that it was posted to Facebook by Mijal Bitton, who has her own issues with White Jewish Supremacy as she so aggressively climbs the Ashkenazi ladder and throws Sephardim under the proverbial bus.

And for good reason.
She has aided the Ashkenazi ethnocentrists by attacking “Identity Politics” in the following Forward article that seeks to undermine Julia Salazar:

Her friend Devin Naar is an SHU favorite of longstanding: he is a craven master of “Bourekas and Haminados” Sephardichkeit, who has carved out a very safe and respectable place among the Ashkenazi racists.
He has attacked the idea of Muslim-Jewish Convivencia to please the Zionists:
His Sephardic Studies department at the University of Washington has been a beacon of ephemeral Sephardic culture:
His book on Jewish Salonica was so weak on “serious” Sephardic culture that even a Right Winger like Andrew Apostolou attacked it, and amazingly recommended the Left Wing Columbia Professor Mark Mazower’s Salonica book – which promoted Ottoman Convivencia – as being superior:
In his Jewish Currents article, it appears that Naar has just “discovered” Ashkenazi racism and is mad as hell!
Sadly, the JC hierarchy is completely Ashkenazi, though Naar conveniently makes no mention of that fact:

To be more precise, I am assuming that Ms. Angel is Sephardic – though her website bio does not say anything about it.
Maybe she is related to Rabbi Marc Angel!
It does state however that she was a fellow at the Yiddish Book Center:
I have no specific knowledge about JC and its Leftist bona fides, or why Naar is so worked up over the very thing that he has accepted for so long.
But his past record speaks quite loudly.
We have seen him working closely with The Tikvah Fund’s Tablet magazine and its racist Ashkenazi supremacy:
It is interesting to note that this article on White Jewish Supremacy was not published by his pal Alana Newhouse, even as she continues to promote White Jewish Supremacy through the agency of Rokhl Kafrissen, whose ongoing column on Yiddish culture has crowded out any talk of Sephardim:

Here is my analysis of the problem:
As she has shown, Ms. Kafrissen is a firm believer in White Jewish Supremacy:
There it is, a White Jewish Supremacist denying that White Jewish Supremacy even exists!

Naar has also found other allies in the Ashkenazi Orthodox world like Elliot Jager, who see him as their friend:

So, without being overly cynical – though it is hard for me not to be! – Naar is barking up the wrong tree with the article. It is too little for him and much too late in the game to be biting the White Jewish hand that has fed him for so long.
Even this attack on White Jewish Supremacy has been very carefully designed not to offend Ashkenazim, as it continues to pull punches while trying without success to level the playing field.
The subdued and respectful tone of the article lacks the critical edge necessary to call out the specific Jewish institutions by name, and to specify in detail who it is that is responsible for this abysmal state of racist affairs.
There are no references to Self-Hating Sephardim like Marc Angel, or to Ashkenazi ethnocentrists like Jonathan Sarna and Zev Eleff; all of whom have spearheaded the erasure of the classical Sephardic heritage and who have undermined Jewish Humanism by helping to promote the New Convivencia.
Naar’s argument is too benign to be effective, as it presents a distinct lack of specificity when it comes to actual confrontation with those who are involved in White Jewish Supremacy and the institutions they serve.
And in the end, Naar’s anemic “Bourekas and Haminados” Sephardischkeit will not adequately serve as a counterweight to the “serious” Ashkenazi cultural presentations that have served to mark the detritus that is White Jewish Supremacy.
Perhaps he, like Mijal Bitton, is trying to become this generation’s Marc Angel; the “go-to” Sephardi for Ashkenazi racists who want to feel better about themselves without getting tied into a knot.
They can read the JC article and comfortably return to their usual White Jewish Supremacy, feeling a little better that they have someone like Naar speaking for Sephardim.
