The main source for the discredited Steele dossier, which
fueled allegations that Donald Trump was compromised by the Russian government,
was arrested Thursday by federal authorities. The arrest of Igor Danchenko is
the latest result of the slow-building inquiry by John Durham, the special
counsel appointed by Trump to investigate evidence of wrongdoing in the
“Russiagate” proceedings that targeted the Trump administration. Danchenko’s
indictment, in which he’s charged with two counts of lying to the FBI,
describes him claiming that he had obtained information about Trump from
Russian sources, when in fact it was coming from political operatives linked to
the Clinton campaign. The revelations highlight the origins of the Steele
dossier, which was presented as the objective findings of retired British
intelligence professional Christopher Steele but was actually an opposition
research product paid for by the Hillary Clinton campaign through its law firm,
Perkins Coie. Despite the inherently partisan nature of Steele’s work, and the
fact that U.S. intelligence agencies knew from the beginning that it contained
false reporting, the dossier was submitted as part of the warrant application
that authorized intelligence agencies to spy on members of the Trump campaign.
In September, Durham indicted Michael Sussmann, a Clinton campaign lawyer who
worked for Perkins Coie, for making false statements to the FBI.

I am not sure how the Steele Dossier has been “discredited,” as its general assertion that the Trump campaign colluded with the Putin Kremlin has been firmly established:

That the more salacious allegations have been left “unproven” does not mean that they are untrue:
“Likely false”: Over the weekend, Yahoo News’s Michael Isikoff, who was one of the first journalists to report the existence of the dossier, said some of its more sensational claims were likely false. Steele was right “that there was a major Kremlin effort to interfere in our elections, that they were trying to help Trump’s campaign, and that there were multiple contacts between various Russian figures close to the government and various people in the Trump campaign,” Isikoff told conservative podcast host John Ziegler. But when “you actually get into the details of the Steele dossier, the specific allegations, we have not seen the evidence to support them.”

So, while the many crimes of Trump and his mafia cabal have not been prosecuted, we have a full-throated attack on one part of the RUSSHER matter – the Steele Dossier – which is being picked apart by a desperate partisan hack for political purposes, and which is now being trumpeted by Tikvah Tablet and the Whore of Trump.

Yesterday, Special Counsel John Durham indicted Brookings Institute analyst Igor Danchenko, better known as the primary source for Christopher Steele, the ex-spy who compiled the now-infamous “Steele Dossier” on behalf of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign in 2016. The case has implications for higher-ranking figures, but the indictment is most immediately devastating to the reputation of the many famous news personalities who hyped the Steele story. They almost all look terrible today, but the response by MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow was a thing beyond. Whatever the category below “disgraced journalist” is, she entered it with gusto with last night’s performance.

Russiagate is already a sizable boil on the face of American journalism, but the indictment of Danchenko has the potential to grow the profession’s embarrassment to fantastic dimensions. For instance, a key claim of the Steele dossier involved a “well-developed conspiracy of cooperation” between Trump and Russia that supposedly went back years, and was managed on the Trump side by Paul Manafort and Carter Page. At one point, it was believed this claim was sourced to an anonymous phone call Danchenko thought came from the former president of the Russian-American Chamber of Commerce, Sergei Millian. Danchenko moreover reportedly told the FBI that he and the “anonymous caller” made an appointment to meet in New York.
He writes as if a trial has already taken place, and a guilty verdict returned.
Let it be consistently stated that anyone who commits crimes should be held accountable.
And let it also be consistently said that Trumpworld has not been held accountable.
I am sure that none of us has ever heard of Igor Dachenko, and probably do not care about him.

During the Republican primaries, a research firm called Fusion GPS was hired by The Washington Free Beacon, a conservative website, to unearth potentially damaging information about Mr. Trump. The Free Beacon — which was funded by a major donor supporting Mr. Trump’s rival for the party’s nomination, Senator Marco Rubio of Florida — told Fusion GPS to stop doing research on Mr. Trump in May 2016, as Mr. Trump was clinching the Republican nomination.
After Mr. Trump secured the nomination, Fusion GPS was hired on behalf of Mrs. Clinton’s campaign and the D.N.C. by their law firm, Perkins Coie, to compile research about Mr. Trump, his businesses and associates — including possible connections with Russia. It was at that point that Fusion GPS hired Mr. Steele, who has deep sourcing in Russia, to gather information.

The basic truth of the Dossier is Trump’s links to RUSSHER – which are undeniable.
Whatever lies Dachenko might allegedly have told – and for this we are totally reliant on the corrupt Durham – are his concern and he should be treated with all due diligence as the law demands.
And so should Bill Barr, John Durham, and Don Jr.

Whatever we think of Rachel Maddow – and her weakness and ineffectiveness is plain for all to see – it is traitors like Taibbi and his pal Glenn Greenwald who should be ashamed of themselves.
