We did correct that novel author - The Door Into Summer was by Robert
Heinlein rather than A. E. VanVogt.
I got confused because my all-time favorite author is A.E. VanVogt - his
best novel was "The War Against The Rull"- old fashioned blood-and-thunder
style.
Anyway, what I was really getting at was when I mentioned the novel was the
ability to develop app and web components that adjust themselves ........
improve themselves over time - just like in the story, the protagonist
invents robots that improve themselves and re-invent themselves.
Of course, the "problem" is having an overall mission statement that can be
understood and carried out about what is "good" and "improved" - opinions
might differ (e.g. in the Terminator series, and in "Collosus The Forbin
Project", the machines decided humans were a blot on the universe).
Keep in mind that Heinlein's story does not follow Isaac Asimov's "I Robot"
ideals for robots - there is no prime directive to protect humans.
Please pardon my literary references. My nickname in the first two years
of high school was "Science Fiction".
Thanks,
Don Kilmark
