Hi Guys

I Googled VirusRemover 2008.  It got 5 stars, Sponsored Links, Top Ranked by USA Today.
Have any of you heard of it. Is it a remover OR  IS it the Viruse itself

First:
I got a msg I had a security problem in a balloon pointing to the tray at the bottom of the screen.
I clicked the bubble and got an offer to buy for $49 1 yr or $79 lifetime.
I downloaded it.
After it scans - it asks me to buy it again.
I eMailed their support. They gave me some instructions. I followed them.
I eMailed support again. Not working.
I eMailed support again and they asked me to send them my sysinfo.

A friend wondered if giving it permission to scan - is the virus that lets it collect all my stuff.
Have you heard of VirusRemover2008.

Do any of you have advice for how to get rid of ANY Viruses.
When I got Norton - That is when I had those questions in New Pal about
I installed Norton and I couldn't get to my web pages I publish.

Do you use Free Macafee from Comcast.com, Norton, MS?
Please advise
Dorita

Dorita,

Phils link should do it... Short Answer, virus was what started issue as it wanted you to "buy a virus remover" which you did, and thus it began the vicious cycle you just encountered.

Best Regards,

David.

All:

I have cleaned that horrid thingy off about a dozen PCs at our place
in the last few months. I didn't have a good cleaner at the time and
spent many hours editing the Registry etc. before I could completely get
rid of it on each machine. I'm glad Phil was able to locate that link for
you Dorita - it should save a bundle of trouble.

Thanks

Ok - I'm gun shy now.
I did NOT click on the button to Enable Protection which I got on my Laptop like last time.
This time I went to my Tower and Googled Win32.BackDoor-DNM and it looks like it's another one of those
suck you in ploys.  You think you are getting the antidote when you are enabling the virus.

When I Googled...
      Win32.BackDoor-DNM
I saw that others were complaining about getting hooked and being violated.
I just don't know what to believe about getting the right software to make the warning go away.

At least I didn't enable the lie to protect this time.

What do you cyber buddies know about this one?
AND
What kind of firewall hole do I have so these are getting thru?
Is Spyware Doctor good or bad?
I have a Comcast modem and it seems like there was a conflict between
Comcast firewall, Norton Security and Macafee Security.

What advice can you offer about getting this damn BackDoor warning to go away?
I don't want to believe Google because the bad guy might be offering something to 'get me'.

I love you guys  ;-)  I turst you.

Dorita,

Ugg. How about a backup the system, reload and install Zone Alarm Firewall (free) and Norton AV Scan (Google Pack version - runs when you want it too and can check files you care about.) and last Google Tool bar for popup protection. If you manage these you shouldn't get them... well shouldn't...

I am afraid you are going to keep fighthing them and not be sure about your system. Need to feel good about it.

Let's talk later today if you want to go the backup, burge and rebuild route.

Hi, Dorita,

Try downloading the free software at Malwarebytes

http://www.malwaree.org/?tid=meorg&gclid=CI6gn6i1hJkCFQ0hDQod7HE3lg

We have had some luck recently using this software.   You may have to run it in Safe Mode.  And you definitely need to be in the Administrative role.  You also need to check your Registry for bogus entries – usually in the Software\Microsoft folders and subfolders.   Good hunting !!

Hey, Team,   I have been working on Visual Studio 2005 recently and making some progress learning it.  There are a lot of things in it that are more “automatic” than 2003.  I am tempted to finish training in 2005 rather than try certification test for 2003.  What’s your take?

Don

Thanks for the tip.
I downloaded and ran the code as Administrator.  It cleared 46 infections.
I ran the code on the Dorita profile and it cleard 32 more infections.
After a few hours the laptopI was infected again.  I ran the code and it cleared 9 infections.
After a few hours it was infected again.
The one thing I didn't do was run in SafeMode.  I wasn't sure how to get to SafeMode.

I talked with my brother that has used the Start > Help & Support > Restore
I knew it got infected Sunday night after I accepted a friend on "MyYearbook".
It was a girl I worked with at Liberty Mutual last year.

I restored from Sat. Feb 28 and all is well now.
Good Chattin' with ya again.

Hi, Dorita,

Using System Restore got you going – and that’s good.  But that may still mean the original worm remains someplace in your machine (hard drive or Registry).

I highly recommend re-running several virus scans including that freebie from Malwarebytes – again as an Admin and in Safe Mode.

Depending on your brand of PC, getting into Safe Mode means hitting a Function key just as you are booting – right after the BIOS loads but before Windows.

You want to be able to choose Safe Mode from a list of boot options.   After rerunning the scans in Safe Mode, then you can reboot into Windows normally.

Still no guarantees implied or intended – but “ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chances”.

Team, I have been doing more boning up on VB .NET Visual Studio 2005  -  I am nearing the end of one of severa self-tutorials and it sure has some amazing stuff built into it.

For example, 2005 has its own Report Viewer  -  works a lot like Crystal but directly part of the IDE.  Once again it is still like sitting down in the cockpit of a 767 – lots of fear of touching the wrong “controls”   (pun intended).  There is a whole section on MDI Parent and Child Menus and Forms with “Merge” functionality that is totally confusing – it would bear a lot of trial-and-error to really understand what goes on under the covers and how it does its thing.

See you all soon.

- DK
