Hello all,
I've been working on learning how to use as well as learning how to edit for my own needs some scripts that were posted as OpenSource by travisg. I'm also, documenting my finds. My plans are to (with all credit that is due under the Open Source License he's chosen) release the scripts and how to edit/use them. That way we can have a more fair playing field. I'm a sysadmin (scripts are in Python which I don't know so that's why it's taking time plus, since this is my first run through DG it's tough to understand game mechanics). Either way... it shows the impressive work by both Dave and Travisg known as non I believe.
So, here is a question that will help me understand some of the options within these scripts.
It comes down to coordinates/grid etc. I know how to find coordinates of a planet etc.. But how do I extrapolate the coordinates of say a random place in the galaxy... So I can create enclosed environment areas (grids I guess you call them) in which actions are taken on objects within the enclosed area.
Any help will not only be extremely appreciated, it will be given full reference in the documentation to the user who helps explain this to me. I'm not the type of person to take credit for something someone else created or taught me.
Anyways... Thank you for your times. On a side note... Anyone have any cool ideas for what to do with the release of DG Open Source whenever that happens? I'm assuming as he's releasing it open source any creations based off his work must be open source as well.. Guess that depends on if he goes with GPL or some other licence. Either way I'm excited..Not much of a developer at the moment but I'm learning, plus I love OSS and try to help with it in anyway possible whether it be beta testing, releasing scripts or even walkthroughs.
Dave has taken tons of time creating a galaxy, and non has taken his own person time learning the game mechanics and scripting it. Least all of us users can do is help make it better when we can, and give credit where its do.
For me... I want to try and come up with a way to create planetary types... Like groups. Along with a way to easily set upgrades, taxes, options etc.. on large groups at once depending on it's types. That way you can maybe have some planets producing krellmetal nad having PD's other planets that have nothing but just producing large amounts of steel and money, military planets etc etc... ANd they'd be grouped. So that way you wouldn't have to manually select each planet.
That's my idea... If anyone was already planning on or already working on something like that I'd love to attempt to collaborate with you, otherwise I guess we can each create our own version and see which is better (I'm sure it will be the other persons) but good experience for myself.
Sorry for long message. Hope everyone is having a great new years!
Regards,
