A single arc managed to attack and destroy a ship in my tough 350 ship fleet.

Piracy - Fleet # 1319202(pirate) Prey surrendered:
                arcs: 1
Piracy - Fleet # 1319202(pirate) Prey escaped.
Piracy - Fleet # 1319202(pirate) Prey surrendered:
                arcs: 1
Fleet: Fleet - Lambda Guardian 1 #1319202, 350 mixed ships (1319202) Battle! --
   We Lost                 scouts -- 1

So how does a fleet that consists of:
blackbirds: 25
scouts: 24
battleships: 50
destroyers: 100
frigates: 100
cruisers: 50

Lose a scout to a ship that has ZERO offensive capabilities? Let alone hurt a fleet that has over 1400 in Defense? Something really weird happened there. And Even though the arc surrendered, and then escaped and then surrendered again, he actually just escaped.

Are you sure that there weren't other ships?? An arc is just what was surrendered. Which makes sense... An arc is going to surrender because it has no offensive capabilities if it can't get away. However, there may have been ships escorting that arc. So the arc may have been pirated, but maybe it had a couple frigates or destroyers escorting it which managed to destroy one of your scouts but wasn't able to protect the arc from being captured.

Looks like it captured an arc. Then, it captured another. Then, it battled something and lost a scout.

Answering the question as asked: maybe two of your ships crashed into each other.

Get better pilots.

Maybe there's a ship type you can't necessarily see.

I agree with above that it was pilot error. I recommend MIcrosoft Flight Simulator for Windows 95. http://www.amazon.com/Flight-Simulator/dp/B002E0QN0K/ref=pd_cp_b_0

That's sure to get them up & trained quickly.
