Questioning how you can fight climate change in your neighbourhood?

Help us plant trees in the city

The impact of TreeMobile keeps growing, which is awesome (and thank you again, for the amazing spring season). The problem, of course, when you just can't stop turning atmospheric carbon into food-bearing trees, is that people keep asking you to plant more trees. So we have a huge order of 70 trees to be planted on October 14th and 15th, for which we need a correspondingly huge number of volunteers. Please, please use our volunteer application form to sign up to plant this October, because these might be some of our toughest planting days ever, and we're not sure we can do it without you.

We could also use help coordinating these planting days, so if you'd like to join the TreeMobile organizing team, please apply via this post on Volunteer Toronto, and know that the big lift leading up to the fall planting is to coordinate volunteers. Alternatively, you can just email me at and...@transitiontoronto.org and let me know you'd like to help organize with TreeMobile.

Support and reach communities with EcoFair Toronto

Another way to combat climate change locally is to bring people together and show them all the environmentally sustainable options and organizations they have in their community. That's exactly what the EcoFair does, and we need help organizing our 15th annual EcoFair. You can volunteer to be a day-of volunteer for this November 5th event, OR you can get engaged in making the EcoFair happen by joining one of our amazing EcoFair teams. To do either, just use this volunteer sign-up form. Our teams are ready to welcome you, have lots of fun working together leading up to each year's EcoFair, and if you join the Food team, you'll probably get pizza. Sign up!

Engage communities in their local climate issues

Transition Toronto now has a mind-blowing team of data scientists who are working to identify gaps in climate resilience in Toronto's communities. Their efforts are truly innovative and can empower communities not only in identifying issues, but quantifying them, and measuring impacts of solutions. But, of course, the data just points to opportunities for engagement. If you...

  • are a community leader, influencer, provider, or activist based within the GTA;
  • believe your community might be interested in engaging in conversations about climate change solutions;
  • have half an hour to say hello and learn more about the project;

...the team would love to chat with you! If this sounds like you, please leave your details here.

Help Circlo support local sustainable businesses in your community

Speaking of community engagers, we have a volunteer community engager position posting for work within our Circlo project.

Can we trust the international supply chains of global megacorporations to provide our communities' necessities in a world that is not only carbon-constrained, but also has its transportation infrastructure assaulted by extreme weather? Ain't no way. We need to support local business and organizations who can provide what we need within our communities. That's exactly what Circlo does, by providing a platform for local businesses to exchange goods and services even when economic downtimes can create cash constraints. It's a way to help local businesses survive and thrive by being less dependent on big banks and companies.

Right now Circlo is making a big push to engage businesses, and you can help by volunteering to engage communities

So are you still worrying that there's nothing you can do about climate change? Do you need that worry in your life when instead you can be thinking about how many awesome people you're going to meet as you work to stop climate change? (For real, our volunteers are cool). Join a team!
