Interesting concerns to church posting of member photographs.
Not sure of the theology of sharing photographs,
Church of Later Day Saints share their family information AT selected stakes (worship sites).
Former experience was 1,800 member presbyterian church that annually had photographer make member albums
with photo, name, address and phone numbers = great aid for sales persons and other contracts.
This was approved by pastors, elders and administrative boards.  Not objected by presbytery of 90 churches.
Perhaps this is modernized to publishing a DVD of people, out of town members, groups, boards and facilities?
School teams have sites of uniform numbers and first names
but not allowing other info, and WITH password shared with parents.

Thanks for your input, Billy. You remind me of secure sites, where a person needs a password to view it. That's usable for some purposes, but our church website is mainly to interest prospective members, so open to the public.

The longtime church membership directories certainly do use photos, names, addresses, etc. But they are in print and available to the members only. It might be possible to have these on the internet now, but then they run into this ethical issue of having personal information stolen for illicit purposes, which is exactly what I'm addressing. I would doubt seriously whether any church would list their members this way.

According to Jim Rietz, there is no way to have the photos totally secure. We probably won't use them! We do have some photos of adults, in groups, and at some distance, so not very identifiable. We may continue to use those - - it does lend some humanity to the message!

Thanks,

Marilyn
