Thanks Ed for the real insight into the back rooms at Oakbrook. Great
to know a currently qualified Apple person is part of DAUG.

My qualification is old as myself from the early 1980s. We did easy
repairs of changing out parts, draining sprinkler water and hair
drying interiors of Apple IIs, reseating the CPU & RAM chips and
upgrading monitors to 12 inch. Oh to be able to pop the top like an
Apple II !

When number of Apples and Macs exceed several hundred our crew of ten
was replaced with contractors that grew to 100 offsite. As more
national and international contracts were let HP was the successful
bider for contract including warehouse-supplier of chosen hardware as
I retired.

So my loyalty was molded by AppleSiders club membership and corporate
cost control policy. As pay was marginal but employment steady the
following of Apple and stock holdings has wandered,
but here now.

Remember the Velcro like substance the kept the lid on the ]['s? It
wasn't Velcro as we know it today.

Then the chip pullers, rocking gently back and forth, careful not to
break off a pin.

On to a hole punch that would give you access to the back side of a
5.25" floppy with paying the extra price.

Then there were the expansion cards that could give you a Z80
processor, Pascal, music, a modem (110), or a generic D/A converter.

I've been chatting on the side with Rand Paulin, an old, old club
member (a teenager at the time) and remembering old club members like
Earl Allen and Pricilla Walling. Member Detleff Adolf created a
business printing banners on his Apple ][ them laminating them.

Al H and others, jump in here with some of the Apple ][ folk and their
tales.

Anybody still in contact with some of the old members?

Ed
