I work with iMovie a lot and have had days of frustrations with the "star" icon iMovie.  I go back to iMovie 6 something always.
I did find a fix iMovie called iMovie  6.5.1  that pretty much works with the new OS's.

I tried to add it's zip file here by the attach a file .....but couldn't get it to load.
If you want to write me at genr...@comcast.net  I should be able to send it that way.
I remember talking to the fellow who made the app and told him that the video should be clearer in explanation...and
he returned an answer thanking me and that he was going to re-do the video.

So let me know if you want this zip file.

Just as a FYI, I did find the original poster of the download file. Basically, this is a Fixed version of iMovie HD with a different icon. It was fixed by the method I linked to before and is an easy change to your own version using TextEdit.

PS. I would always be careful downloading files from unknown "developers" - there may be more code added to track or trace your activity in a package which looks like an ok file.
