I keep getting the following messages on startup. I’m in Mavericks.

1. Do you want the application “printerAgent” to accept incoming network connections?  Deny   Allow
I looked it up and this was a solution offered:
Go to user - library (in Lion press “ lt" to see the folder in "Go to" menu) - LaunchAgents and delete the file com.hp.printeragent.plist.
Reboot the mac and the message is gone for ever..

2. I’m also getting: Do you want the application EEventManager.app to accept incoming network connections?
Deny     Allow.    Apparently this is connected to my new Epson Scanner. Here is a fix:
According to Epson, EEventManager does not work, and cannot be made to work under Mavericks (see below).  You can remove the file without it messing up anything else - by default this is found in >Applications>Epson Software.  Rather than trash the file completely I put it in a folder within documents, just in case, so you may want to do the same.

This is the Epson support reply,

In response to your query, when using the Push Scan feature on your Epson product, Epson Event Manager fails to respond and scanning doesn't initialise. This is due to a change in OS X Mavericks (10.9) which means that it is no longer possible to use this function. There is no specific solution for this issue and unfortunately support for this functionality under OS X Mavericks (10.9) does not exist.

The main Epson Scan software does allow control of the scanning from the computer.  Once you have the image you can print or email it so the buttons on the front of the scanner were never much use for anything anyway - even if they had ever worked.

Does anyone see any problems with the fixes above?

If you have a HP printer, then Allow.

If you have an Epson scanner, then Allow.

If you don't have either, you can follow the instructions... with a correction or two.

Make sure you do not include anything related to these device in your Login Items (System Preferences / Users & Groups).

LaunchAgents is in 2 places (something the instructions did not mention).

User Library - in the Go menu, hold down Option key to see Library. Rummage through LaunchAgents there.

System Library - in the Go menu, select Computer. Select your Hard Drive (Macintosh HD), click Library, and then LaunchAgents. While in this Library, you will find LaunchDaemons with a bunch of stuff also.

Some of the items may be running and will require a restart to Empty Trash as they might have a background running application.

I don't like HP software and don't like they way they do background installations. Also, I have never used the scan buttons on all in one printers or scanners - they worked when I only had 1 Mac, it is just confusing with more. I just use ImageCapture.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

“I think by far the most important bill in our whole code, is that for the diffusion of knowledge among people. No other sure foundation can be devised for the preservation of freedom and happiness… The tax which will be paid for this purpose is not more than the thousandth part of what will be paid to kings, priests and nobles who will rise up among us if we leave the people in ignorance.”
