Hello everyone,

I found this thread which corresponds to my doubt, since I have tried to validate DDI from Dataverse and it fails with DDI 2.5 schema. What I do not understand though, is why this issue is treated like a suggestion? It should not be crucial for Dataverse to produce valid DDI documents? This could not implicated negatively in how other systems consume the information available in Dataverse?

I am thinking about adopting Dataverse as repository in my digital preservation scenario. But since others systems will not be able to check if the metadata is valid or not, it makes me wonder.

Good point. I adjusted the title and changed the label from "suggestion" to "bug": https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/3648

I agree that this is crucial.

Hi Rebecca,

Could you write more about how Dataverse would work in your scenario? It helps a lot with prioritizing this among other Dataverse development work?

I agree with you and Phil that it's crucial.

Hi, guys.

Thanks for answer so promptly. I would like to say that Dataverse is an incredible initiative and a great tool. It is sound ideal as a research datasets repository.

Julian, in my work, we are starting an initiative to preserve some datasets (csv, stata, spss and others). We found out about Dataverse and it sounds really good because it has features like versioning, restrict access to the files, OAI-PMH support and because works with DDI, which, as far as I could understand, is the main metadata standard for research datasets and it is the standard that we intend to use.

The idea, so far, is to use Dataverse as our main access repository and for description metadata creation. Then we found about this initiative to integrate Dataverse with Archivematica, which focus on implement the OAIS recommendations for digital preservation and thus could be responsible for implement some of these recommendations and for the AIP package creation.
