Help with file format identification

Hello,

We are preparing the preservation plan for our Dataverse installation, and we need to accurately identify the file formats and their respective size. 

We couldn't find anything in the Dataverse documentation in this matter, is there a way to get this type of information in an automated way?

I’m not sure exactly what you need, but there are some Metrics api calls, /api/info/metrics/files/byType in particular – see https://guides.dataverse.org/en/latest/api/metrics.html#metrics-api . That’s what’s used to create graphs of file format content by count (number of files of that format) and  size (aggregate size of all files in that format) by the https://github.com/gdcc/dv-metrics app. You can get CSV output directly from the api as well.

 

Beyond that, the normal collection, dataset, file APIs would let you scan for everything. One could also query the db directly if needed.
