Calling all Open Source developers!

I am making an open call for brief informational interviews. The Center for Open Science (COS) has received an award from NSF’s Pathways to Open Source Ecosystem (POSE) Phase II (# 2303690) to collaborate with research communities to co-develop tools that support open scholarship practices through maturing the Open Science Framework’s (OSF) open-source ecosystem. We need to conduct informational interviews with Open source/ Open science developer community leaders and participants to understand how to create the most rewarding mutually beneficial developer community possible. We would thoroughly appreciate your participation.

If you have participated or led any Open source/ Open science Developer community we would love to hear from you in a quick 15-minute interview.

I also got this invite/question via email. I had already responded to it and they planned in a short 15 min meeting @ Tue 6 Feb 2024 3pm - 3:15pm (CET).

I was planning on just pointing out the OSF-Dataverse plugin and how it doesn't work correctly anymore. If there is anything else to point out to them or other people who also have a meeting scheduled, it might be an idea to give a heads up, so we're not duplicating the same meetings too much ;). If anyone wants to join the one already scheduled in, I think I can forward the invite. I don't think they'll have a problem with that.

I don't think it will hurt (might even help) if we duplicate what we talk about with COS. I have tried for YEARS to get them to improve the Dataverse-OSF addon, and have gotten nowhere. I presented how it "works" at the 2017 Dataverse Community meeting - https://osf.io/e5n3h/.  I think the more the Dataverse Community talks about the problems and the need for a working addon, someone there will finally understand? In this grant they want to partner, not actually the work, the grant does have money to give to external developers (proposal says: $80,000 to provide incentives to community developers to contribute).

Thanks for volunteering to talk with them and I encourage any of the GDCC steering committee to talk with them too.

Hi all,

I've scheduled a meeting with OSF, too. At UiT/DataverseNO we started a pilot on OSF 2-3 years ago, but didn't continue due to capacity issues. I'll also put my GDCC hat on the call with OSF. ;-)

I just had my call with OSF. They are trying to build a developer community and I tried to give whatever advice I could. They're looking for more people to talk to if anyone has any ideas. They've really enjoyed talking to all the Dataverse people!
