Hi All,

I've seen this mentioned once previously in discussion and I would love a bit of information about making the case at our university library. (Folks mentioned it was fairly simple and I'll need to provide a bit of information for sending to Alma admin and others in admin.)

Does anyone have a link or two or some information about this that you've experienced?

(I'm really hoping we can get some more attention and access to our repository on campus.)

Thank you all for your time with this,

-Reid

Sorry for the extra email - that came out a bit wrong - I'm looking for information about how this happens in Alma (what they would have to do.)
Thanks again,

Reid

Hi Reid,

I am not familiar with Alma, what it can and can't do.

But I know that the Solr Index from Dataverse can be used to populate other catalogs - or at least that's what we do at UVa. NOTE: we have a home grown discovery system now, but were using a SIRSI system with Blacklight for discovery.

So if Almat can take a Solr index and include that with the other items, maybe that's what you could do?

Here's the facet search for our "solr" dataverse index - https://search.lib.virginia.edu/search/c54td06qufeth1hcn0pg

We also have two other repositories (in our "Libra" suite that produce solr indexes - those records are discoverable in our "catalog"):

Hi there .. are you trying to make Dataverse datasets discoverable in Primo? Not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for .. but we set up our Dataverse installation as a harvesting server and created an OAI set of all published datasets. Then, our Alma developer is using a discovery import profile in Primo to harvest the records from the OAI-PMH feed.

Here is an example: https://search.lib.asu.edu/discovery/search?query=any,contains,Western%20Regional%20Copyright%20Education%20Project&tab=Everything&search_scope=MyInst_and_CI&vid=01ASU_INST:01ASU&offset=0

This is ingested directly from Dataverse OAI-PMH feed.

Hi Deirdre and Sherry,

Thank you both! Yes, this is what I was thinking about. From what I understand about Alma (very small amount) they use Solr, and the OAI-PMH feed information and example will be great to communicate this. I know that there may be some limitations in what we can do currently in both realms, but it will be great to start this conversation and see what's possible.

I really appreciate you all,
Sincerely,

Reid

Hi Reid,

Datasets from our Dataverse-based repository (DataverseNO; https://dataverse.no/) (and datasets from other repositories using DOIs provided by DataCite) are searchable in the Primo search service used by Norwegian universities and other institutions, called Oria, through metadata provided by DataCite. However, getting this in place har been a painful process. The first time I raised this issue to our Oria support team was in 2017, and still today, there are issues with making these datasets searchable. As a user, you need to select "Include material your institution doesn't have access to" option in the "Tweak my results" section, which is of course a completely unnecessary and counter-intuitive step. Our institution has raised this and similar issues to Ex Libris several times, but so far they haven't solved the issues.

Best,
Philipp
