Tomorrow, Feb 3, at 10am Boston time we'll have our geospatial jamboree! The Zoom link can be found at https://dataverse.org/community-calls

In our speaker's own words:

"I will be showcasing the new expanded geospatial metadata block based on the ISO 19115 metadata standard, now available for open review (see PR# https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/pull/11507 ).

We are super excited about this new development for the community and I hope you can make it! :)

Sneak preview of new DV geospatial metadata (2026) block (attached)."

-- Amber Leahey, Borealis

"This is about using the Geonames service to have URIs of geographic locations in the metadata instead of textual terms or labels. Similar to the Skosmos integration with external vocabulary services functionality, but then with the Geonames API."

-- Paul Boon, DANS

If there's time, I may also briefly present a wishlist of geospatial features we've been making.

Again, the Zoom link is here: https://dataverse.org/community-calls

See you soon!

Phil

p.s. Amber kicked off a topic in Zulip if you'd like to discuss there: #geospatial > Expanded geospatial metadata block - Feb 3 Community Call @ 💬
