Hi everyone,

We have enabled the download count metrics, but it seems a bit weird as it haven't changed for months...

It is quite impossible that there is not a single increment of download. We have also  manually counted the downloads for published dataset and the number (around 8000) is far off from this shown one (seen the following image) and thus we wonder if there is anything going wrong or any logs we can trace.

Thanks,
Jack

Hi Jack,

I checked out the CUHK Research Data Repository's home page at https://researchdata.cuhk.edu.hk today and I see what you mean about the count of all downloads at the top of the repository's homepage. It's still 36,527.

I see on the datasets' pages that the repository is showing Make Data Count metrics, so I'm assuming that when you wrote that you enabled download count metrics, you enabled Make Data Count metrics.

I downloaded the file, Tco-F.proteins.fa, of the dataset at https://doi.org/10.48668/LWA9UV, and in the file table, the download count for the file shows 1 now, but the Dataset Metrics section at the top of the page also still shows "0 downloads".

When you manually counted the downloads for published datasets, could you write how you did that? Did you query the repository's database? If you did, could you share what table or tables you looked at?

It also seems strange to me that the count of all downloads in the repository hasn't changed in months. From the database, could you see if people have downloaded files in the repository in recent months? I'm hoping this would at least help determine if there really has been no single increment of a download in the months since you enabled Make Data Count metrics.

I hope this helps!
Julian
