Hi everyone,

I'm writing to let you all know about a new project underway to analyze and prioritize the backlog of issues in the Dataverse GitHub repo and develop and implement a new issue monitoring and triage process.

You can read about the project's goals and plans and follow monthly progress in this GitHub issue: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse-pm/issues/114.

For the first two steps of the process, we will be:
  1. Reviewing all feature requests (GitHub label: Type: Feature) for further action, and
  2. Closing issues in the Dataverse repository created before 2020-08-18, with a note. This date was chosen by the development team because it corresponds to version 5.0, marking a significant shift in Dataverse functionality and features.
Then, we'll continue on with the tasks described in the full project plan: Project: Analyze and Prioritize Dataverse Backlog. There will be opportunities for feedback from the Dataverse Community along the way.

Our target completion date is December, 2024. Exact project timing is likely to vary based on our other work.

If you have questions, please let me know here, on Zulip, or on Slack.

Thanks,

--Ceilyn

Great to hear! Will you keep anything from before 2020 if it's conceptually a good idea but just needs rethinking due to changes in DV since then?

Hi Amber,

Yes, most definitely!

We're going to review all the Type: Feature requests going back until 2014, which is how far the backlog extends. We'll prioritize all the ones that are still relevant post-version 5.

But if we close any pre-2020 issues that you feel we should definitely review, then please reopen them and leave a comment. We'll add those to the review list, too.
