2025 Dataverse Community Meeting
June 10-13, 2025 | Pre-Conference Workshops: June 10, 2025 | Hackathon: June 13, 2025
Location: University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, NC, USA
Theme: “Expanding the Dataverse: Advancing Innovation, Building Community, Establishing Legacy”

The Dataverse Community is pleased to announce the 2025 Dataverse Community Meeting from June 10th - 13th, 2025 hosted at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. We invite you to join us for an exciting conference focused on Expanding the Dataverse.

This theme seeks to explore Dataverse from multiple perspectives: from technical advancements and integrations to innovative faculty-led research initiatives that leverage Dataverse in unique and transformative ways. We are excited to hear how the Dataverse community supports the research legacies of their institutions and faculty while simultaneously cultivating stronger communities of practice in data sharing, preservation, and repository infrastructure.

Who Should Submit
We invite proposals from a broad range of contributors, including:

  • Developers and Technologists: Share cutting-edge work on new Dataverse features, plug-ins, modules, and integrations with other research data infrastructures.
  • Faculty, Researchers, and Data Professionals: Highlight projects and research initiatives that utilize Dataverse to manage and share scholarly data.
  • Librarians, Repository Managers, and Information Specialists: Discuss best practices, policies, governance, and community-driven efforts around the stewardship and curation of datasets in Dataverse.
  • Educators and Trainers: Present teaching approaches, classroom use-cases, and training materials that help cultivate the next generation of Dataverse users and contributors.

Conference Scope and Topics
We seek contributions that align with the theme of “Expanding the Dataverse”, including, but not limited to:

  • Technical Development and Integrations
  • Faculty Research and Institutional Use-Cases
  • Community Building, Governance, and Data Ethics
  • Curation, Preservation, and Data Sharing Standards and Workflows
  • Outreach and Dissemination
  • Challenges and Opportunities
  • Compliance and Policy Implementation
  • User Support, Training, and Education

Session Formats
We welcome submissions for various formats to accommodate a range of participation and interaction styles:

  • Presentation: 15–20 minute talks offering insights into cutting-edge developments, research projects, and case studies.
  • Roundtable Discussion: 45–60 minute discussions engaging multiple speakers and fostering dialogue, debate, and community input.
  • Poster: Visual displays of research findings, implementation strategies, and community initiatives, accompanied by an interactive session for Q&A and networking.
  • Workshop (Pre-Conference – June 10): Half- or full-day sessions providing hands-on learning experiences, demonstrations of new tools and methodologies, and opportunities to build technical and conceptual skills.

Please note that we will also be hosting an all-day Hackathon on June 13th which will provide attendees with the opportunity to contribute their ideas and expertise to Dataverse. More information on the Hackathon will be forthcoming, so keep an eye out for that announcement!

Submission Guidelines

  • Length & Format:
    • Presentation and Roundtable proposals: Up to 500 words, describing topic scope, relevance, and target audience.
    • Poster proposals: Up to 300 words, summarizing the project, data, or tool.
    • Workshop proposals: Up to 700 words, specifying goals, required materials, technical prerequisites, and participant outcomes.
  • Include: Title, presenter(s) name and affiliation, contact information, abstract, and up to 5 keywords.
  • Deadline: Proposals must be submitted by March 15, 2025.
  • Notification of Acceptance: Authors will be notified by April 10, 2025.
  • Please limit your submissions to one per session format.

Registration details, including early-bird rates, lodging, and travel information, will be provided on the conference website as they become available.

About the Host
The 2025 Dataverse Community Meeting will take place at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a leading public research university, rich in tradition and known for fostering innovation and collaboration.

Chapel Hill offers a college town experience with historical landmarksfamous trees, and a variety of hiking trails and natural sights tucked into central North Carolina under Carolina Blue skies. Tour Franklin Street and check out its many delicious venues, pop into a show at the Morehead Planetarium, or experience the exhibits in the Ackles Art Museum. There’s plenty to do in Chapel Hill, but if you want to branch out a bit, you can always hop on a bus to visit the nearby cities of Durham and Raleigh.
