Hi All … we have recently put our Dataverse into production and are building our final Terms of Use and Data Usage Agreement documents. Wondering if there is a standard on how to attach/utilize these … do most orgs just link to their Terms/DUA from their landing page and or organization website? I know we can specify a Terms of Use for each dataverse created … do some just add it there every time? I found a JVM option for linking the API terms of use, but not sure where to link to the general Dataverse terms and/or data usage policy. And, do most orgs have both a Terms of Use and Data Access Policy, or is the DUA just for special restrictions on files? I did read this: https://dataverse.scholarsportal.info/guides/en/latest/user/dataset-management.html#terms but still a bit confused.

Thank you, Sherry! That is great feedback … we were wondering where the best place would be to put the ToU on each dataverse, and that seems like a great solution. We are only allowing admins to create sub-dataverses as well.

Sorry all … resending this without all my info on it! Keep forgetting to remove it.
Also, another question … is a separate preservation policy necessary?
-----------------------------------------
Thanks for the response!
So, in general … Terms of Use agreement is copied into the link that appears when creating a new account, and the user cannot create an account unless he agrees. And the terms of use are typically also included in a link somewhere on the dataverse (ie: the “slogan” link).. ??
And, if an organization hosting Dataverse (the application) and has its own Data Usage Agreement, aside from the terms specified for each dataset by the creator, those are typically just linked in a separate page, such as on the About Us page or separate Dataverse landing page? (ie: there is not a specific location within dataverse for linking something other than the Terms of Use)?
And, some organizations only have a Terms of Use agreement, but some have a data usage agreement, preservation policy, api terms of use, and privacy policy?
Just checking how other orgs do these things as we are wrestling with making all of these decisions! =)
