R install in ubuntu

dear all,  while trying install R in ubuntu I have some error below :

root@pdii-4:/lib/systemd/system# apt-get install r-base
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 r-base : Depends: r-base-core (>= 3.3.2-1xenial0) but it is not going to be installed
          Depends: r-recommended (= 3.3.2-1xenial0) but it is not going to be installed
          Recommends: r-base-html but it is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

 how i fix that ?

Sorry, the Dataverse development team at IQSS doesn't really support Ubuntu. We use RHEL and CentOS. That said, there are community efforts to support Ubuntu and you might want to check out these Puppet scripts which install Rserver, which requires R:


I hope this helps! Maybe someone in the community can help answer this question.

Hello,

I'm afraid I'm unable to reproduce this problem on my Ubuntu 16 LTS machine. A few questions:
  • Finally, my r-base installation test was poor because it's early and out of habit I installed it with aptitude rather than apt-get. You could try:

    $ aptitude update
    $ aptitude install r-base
Let me know if one of these doesn't do the trick?
