Hi everyone,

We have a user that encountered difficulty logging in, where he constantly gets redirected to our customized shibboleth account creation page.

So we were thinking if it is possible to delete a user account while keeping his datasets. This way he can re-create his account.

Thanks,
Jack

You might want to have the user create a fresh account and then merge the old account into it: https://guides.dataverse.org/en/5.10.1/api/native-api.html#merge-accounts-label

Thanks Philip!

Does that mean we have to create a new Dataverse user account (which is not affiliated with any institutional account) on the backend side,
and merge it with the old Dataverse user account (the one currently "linked" with the institutional account of the researcher)?

Since our only authentication is by institutional login, we are unable to ask the user to create a new account on his/her side.

Thanks,
Jack

Hmm, you have no builtin accounts at all? Even for administrative
purposes, such as the dataverseAdmin account?

Yes we have the dataverseAdmin account, which is builtin and not logged in via email.

But for other general user accounts, they are authenticated with institutional email.

Is there a file directory or log table in which I can check if a user is using a local builtin account and check the temporary verification code/password upon account creation?

The easiest way to see the type of user account is through the superuser dashboard: https://guides.dataverse.org/en/5.10.1/admin/dashboard.html#users

You can also list users via API: https://guides.dataverse.org/en/5.10.1/admin/user-administration.html#list-users-via-api

I'm not sure what you mean about a temporary code. There's a password reset token, if that helps: https://guides.dataverse.org/en/5.14/schemaspy/tables/passwordresetdata.html
