Dataverse is participating in Hacktoberfest for the second year in a row. In short, Digital Ocean is giving out t-shirts to people who make four pull requests on GitHub in October.
From our perspective, it's a way to remind everyone that we strive to be friendly to contributions of code and docs.
From your perspective, you can learn something new, such as how to make a pull request or details about some Dataverse internals you've never seen. Maybe you can correct a typo or fix a bug. You'll earn our eternal gratitude. :)
https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/labels/hacktoberfest has a few issues that I just labeled as "hacktoberfest" to get you thinking about how you might like to contribute, but I'd like to emphasize that you can participate by working on any issue. Not only that, you can participate by working on any issue in any repo on GitHub. That means you can work on issues hosted under
https://github.com/GlobalDataverseCommunityConsortium or anywhere, really.
I've never participated in Hacktoberfest myself but both Oliver* and Jim got t-shirts last year. To register, head over to
https://hacktoberfest.digitalocean.com where there is also an FAQ and videos to watch.
We're still new at this so if you have any questions, please fire away.
Happy hacking,
Phil
p.s. If you are a maintainer of a repo on GitHub that is related to Dataverse, please feel free to reply on this thread with a link to the repo and some encouraging words about contributing to your project. :)
