Greetings,

We were well on our way to having a shiny new DVN production site (DVN v3.6 / Glassfish v3.1.2.2) up and running when I foolishly restarted our VM server to test a new Handle server config.  The Handle server came up without a hitch but DVN is now dead in the water.  All I get is a very depressing "start-domain failed" message.  We had just completed our production load of approximately 1600 studies occupying 200GB being migrated from DSpace.  The VM is generously provisioned  with 48GB & 4 vCPU.  I've perused the log files but nothing jumps out at me.  My experience with Glassfish is somewhat limited but I'm learning quickly.  Would anyone have any tips on how I might go about diagnosing this problem?  All suggestions are welcome.

Hi Jeorg,

Can you send me your server.log file? It may have a clue about the problem. I've seen this problem when the Xmx and Xms jvm options are set incorrectly but it may be something else.

Regards,

Kevin

Kevin,

Many thanks for the speedy offer to help but I managed to put my finger on the source of the problem.  It seems that DVN was trying to listen on port 80 when the httpd process had already grabbed this port.  I had been experimenting with using Apache as a front-end to DVN and forgot to disable start up script.  I really should have noticed this sooner.  Unfortunately Glassfish wasn't very forthcoming about the problem and just quietly failed.  Anyways, all appears well and hopefully we'll be in production soon.  Ciao.

Thanks Phil.  I might need a little more hand holding before we get there. ;-)
