Hello,

I’m getting an error when trying to access files from one of the datasets in our Dataverse.

The log looks like this:

Caught an exception in S3AccessIO.getAuxFileAsInputStream(): software.amazon.awssdk.core.exception.SdkClientException: Unable to execute HTTP request: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: General OpenSslEngine problem (SDK Attempt Count: 1)]]

  Datafile 15746: Failed to locate and/or open physical file. Error message: Unexpected error while retrieving S3 object metadata]]

Additionally, I see a bunch of these errors in log.

[2026-02-05T13:40:07.054-0500] [Payara 6.2025.10] [WARNING] [] [edu.harvard.iq.dataverse.dataaccess.S3AccessIO] [tid: _ThreadID=93 _ThreadName=http-thread-pool::jk-connector(3)] [timeMillis: 1770316807054] [levelValue: 900] [[

  getDatasetCardImageAsUrl(): Failed to initialize dataset StorageIO for s3://10.26027/DATAGCCF2G (S3AccessIO: Failed to check if auxiliary object is cached: dataset_logo_original)]]

I am able to access other datasets that are in the S3 bucket. And I can see the files for the dataset that is having a problem in a bucket.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Was able to resolve this. It was a certificate error, as per the log. Strangely, it was not failing on all datasets initially, but then slowly they all stopped working.
