Dataverse 5.0 - Excel file ingest error

Hi Everyone,

We are having problems with Excel file ingest in Dataverse 5.0. But if we convert to CSV and upload the ingest works.

We are getting the above error message. Any idea what would be the problem?

Hi Venki,

I looked up the line* where that error is thrown. It's a little hard to troubleshoot without the actual Excel file. If it's ok to be public, can you upload it to https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/7452 ? If not, can you email it to sup...@dataverse.org? If neither, and you can add some debug statements on a local build, that's what I'd suggest.

Hi Venki,

Has the problem been discovered, yet? I noticed today that in GitHub issue about improving Excel ingest Sebastian Karcher left a comment about how line breaks within cells in an Excel sheet can cause this error. I just tested this on Demo Dataverse and got a similar error when uploading an XLSX file but didn't get the error when converting that sheet to a CSV file and uploading that.

Julian Gautier: Thank you for the reply and the testing. Yes we are still having problems with those excel files that has line breaks. Our colleagues removed the line breaks and successfully uploaded the files for ingestion. Thank you for sharing the github comment which was very useful.
