Hello,At Johns Hopkins University, we are gearing up to move our on-premises Dataverse server to a containerized architecture in AWS ECS. We wondered if others in the community, who have gone through a similar process, had any words of wisdom prior to the migration? Or maybe you have been running Dataverse in AWS and/or the Docker build in production for a while and have some lessons learned to share?
We welcome any guidance on this topic.

Take care,
Betsy

Hi there! We haven't done this yet, but I'm very interested in the possibility as well. We have been moving many of our custom applications to AWS ECS and that has been going very well and once implemented easy to maintain. I have not tried moving Dataverse/Solr but was just looking into it, at least moving Solr rather than having a separate instance for it, which we currently do. The only issue that I'm unsure of is how to manage the persistent storage in /var/solr, perhaps using EFS or EBS still. We do have Solr running in ECS for other apps so it is possible. I would be happy to work with you on testing this out and/or discussing ideas for how to implement.

Hi there .. Just an update .. I did just finally get Solr running in an ECS Fargate service! If you haven't already I would be happy to share the process. I am going to run it that way in our Dev site for a while and then move on to QA/Prod. I am also working on terraforming it.

For now this is helpful to us until we delve into the containerized installation, we can eliminate a separate server!

Hello!
That is great news. We'd be happy to set up a meeting and compare notes :-).
