Report on the preservation systems of six Dataverse data repositories

Dear community,

As part of the Next Generation Recovery Plan, CSUC has received funding to improve the infrastructure and ensure the preservation system of the CORA.RDR data repository from universities and research centers in Catalonia. 

A few months ago, we contacted dataRepositoriUM, Borealis, DataverseNL, DataverseNO, FAIRData, and ODUM’s institutions to discuss their preservation systems. From the analysis, we have produced a report titled "Dataverse and Digital Preservation: An Overview of Different Institutions" (http://hdl.handle.net/2072/536532).

 

The study focused on how the mentioned institutions practically addressed three aspects of digital preservation, specifically the following: 

• The backup copies they had and their locations. 
• Integrity checks and their frequency. 
• Antivirus controls were conducted. 

While the report is not exhaustive, it can be useful for many institutions looking to gain a brief overview of what different institutions are doing. For our part, it has helped us define the number of copies and develop a file verification system.
