Dear Samuel,

I'm also having this same issue.

I have the latest Java installed (1.7.0_11).

Best regards,

I do not have a windows 8 machine to try it right now,
Can you please collect some more diagnostics for us? Try to open the icon
properties and copy the command line (should be something begining
with "javaw"). Then open a command prompt, change to datasoul directory and
paste the copied command. It should print out some additional information
on why it does not open, please send this output for us.

I think for next version it would be a good idea to have some logging
mechanism by default...

Dear Samuel,

I have fixed it.
The icon target was pointing to:
%SystemRoot%/system32/javaw.exe -Xmx512m -jar datasoul.jar

I've just changed to:
javaw -Xmx512m -jar datasoul.jar

And it WORKED!!!! ;-)

Many thanks for your help.

Douglas

Had the same problem, a new Windows8 computer and the "block" for Datasoul om "Start" got me to the desktop. There I had another shortcut for Datasoul which started the programme.

To change the "block" in "Start" I right-klicked on the "block" and choose "Open filepath". Rightklicking again on the Datasoul shortcut and choosing "Preferences" gave me the filepath like Douglas said. But to make it work I had to search for the javaw.exe and write the path: ""C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe" -Xmx512m -jar datasoul.jar".

And now both the shortcuts works, both on "Start" and on the Desktop.

(Hope I got the English words correct, I translated from Swedish)
