Dear friends of Dataset Search,

Happy 2023! We have some exciting Dataset Search highlights from the last few months.

Find datasets using Google Search: If you search for datasets on google.com, you will now see a dedicated datasets-results section for many queries, powered by Dataset Search. Make sure your dataset pages have correct schema.org/Dataset markup to be indexed by Dataset Search and to be eligible to appear in these query results. Here is an example (we had lots of snow in California mountains recently, so we decided to check!):

See previews of tabular data: For datasets in tabular format, you will now see a preview of the dataset on the Dataset Search page. The preview works for datasets in CSV and similar formats where metadata contains working download links. Additionally, Dataset Search shows statistics such as the size of the tables, rows and columns, and column headers, where available. Depending on the dataset license, the preview may show only the first few rows of the dataset or it may allow you to scroll through more data. You will still need to go to the provider's site to download the entire dataset. Try the query [water quality site:canada.ca] to see an example.

More datasets: Dataset Search now has over 44 million datasets from more than 13,000 websites. We plan to add more in 2023.

Stay tuned for more news this year!

As always, we welcome your feedback and comments at dataset...@googlegroups.com or through the feedback button in the tool.
