* http://www.snapfiles.com/get/pspv.html - "Protected Storage
PassView is a small utility that reveals the passwords stored on your
computer by Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. The passwords are
revealed by reading the information from the Protected Storage. These
include all email and web site passwords where you chose "remember
password" (not cookie passwords) as well as auto-complete passwords.
This utility can only show the passwords of the current logged-on user.
it cannot reveal the passwords of other users. Allows you to see all
the passwords IE has stored if you agreed to the auto-login feature.
Also allows you to quickly see the passwords for logging into POP
accounts stored in Outlook Express. Very useful." Comment -
Excellent. Very illuminating from a security perspective. Your stored
Website passwords are in plain view with this software.

* http://www.insidepro.com/eng/passwordspro.shtml - "PasswordsPro
program is designed to recover users' passwords and comprises several
special tools to recover, generate and store passwords.. Recovery of
hidden passwords This tool is to recover the passwords hidden by
asterisks in the following objects: standard Windows textual field to
enter the passwords (EditBox), TEdit, TDBEdit and TMaskEdit, and works
under all OS Windows. " Comment - Scary. Click on the yellow triangle,
open the window that has the hidden password and it turns to plain
text. Especially seems to work if you click on the field with the
password. The class of window you are looking for is "Edit." Worked
with WS_FTP.

* http://www.snapfiles.com/get/starpw.html - " Windows 9X and NT
systems allow a convenient storage of frequently used passwords, such
as the password of your dial-in ISP or FTP connection. However, since
you no longer enter the saved password manually, you tend to forget
them. What are you to do when you need to know one of the saved
passwords? The password is staring right at you, but is hiding behind a
row of ******** asterisks. StarPW Revealer allows you to reclaim your
password. StarPW Revealer's Features Spwr runs and works under all
32-bit versions of Micro$oft Windows 95/98/ME/NT (except 2000/XP ).
Spwr is able to reveal saved-passwords in the "Outlook Express", even
under Windows XP!! Spwr automatically copies the revealed password to
the clipboard. Spwr is Freeware and Open Source."

* http://www.soft-central.net/passunleash.php - "Most applications
under Windows allow you to store their passwords. Examples are the
passwords of ISP's, the password of your email client or FTP tool. Once
the password is stored, it is hidden under a row of "***" asterisks and
cannot be read again. Now, this nifty utility allows you to read any of
your passwords that are covered by the asterisks by simply dragging a
cursor over such a password field. Once the cursor is on top of a "***"
password field, SC-PassUnleash instantly displays the password in
readable text on screen." Comment - Worked great with WS_FTP in XP Pro.

* http://www.refog.com/passwordrecovery/ - lite version is a website
password revealer.

++Partial Windows 2000 XP Support (My guesses)++++

* http://nirsoft.tripod.com/ - "This utility reveals the passwords
stored behind the asterisks ('***') in standard password text-boxes. It
supports the following operating systems: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP .
Known Limitations: This utility works fine with most password
text-boxes, but there are some applications that don't store the
password behind the asterisks, in order to increase their security. In
such cases, AsterWin will not be able to reveal the password. The
following applications and OS components don't store the password
behind the asterisks: Netscape 6.x (Passwords in the Web page), Dialup
and network passwords in Windows 2000 and Windows NT/2000/XP user
management tools."

* http://www.seelhofer.ch/mad/download/pwd_view.zip - "Simple utility
to view passwords shown in asterisks (***). Win9x. Partial XP-support
(depends on the application)."

* http://www.totalcmd.net/plugring/DialPWD.html - "This plugin shows
cached passwords using standard (but undocumented). Windows API
functions on local machine for current user (user must be logged
in)." (Windows 95-ME)

* http://www.listsoft.com/7824/ - "A tool to recover (crack)
passwords hidden under in ***** symbols in various Windows boxes. Might
be useful to refresh some memory about the passwords you have set."

* http://www.mitec.cz/systools.htm password revealer.

* http://www.zipcure.com/ - "Unmask will help you to unmask hidden
passwords in the edit fields." Comment - Didn't work with my test case,
the passwords stored in my FTP accounts in WS_FTP on a Windows XP Pro
SP2 machine.

* http://www.woundedmoon.org/win32/123pwdrec_setup.html - "Most
applications allow you to store their passwords, such as the password
of your dial-in ISP, the password of your email client or FTP tool.
Once the password is stored, it is hidden under a row of *****
asterisks and can not be read by you again, e. g. in the case you
forget your password. Now, this nifty utility allows you to read any of
your passwords that are covered by the asterisks by simply dragging the
007 special cursor over such a password field. Once the 007 cursor is
on top of a ***** password field, the 007 Password Recovery utility
displays the password instantly on its screen. Won't reveal password in
Win 2000/XP dialer." Comment - Didn't work with my test case, the
passwords stored in my FTP accounts in WS_FTP on a Windows XP Pro SP2
machine.

* http://www.max2k.com/programs.php?id=4 - - "Description: Helps you
to see a password **** like "pass". Simply drag the button over the
password field. Important: It may not work on some programs (e.g. IE
6,OE 6) especially on WinXP where the password field is like " Comment
- For the reason mentioned in the description, this program Didn't work
with my test case, the passwords stored in my FTP accounts in WS_FTP on
a Windows XP Pro SP2 machine.

* http://camtech2000.net/Pages/Password_Reveal.html - "Programs that
remember our passwords are pretty handy. The Window opens showing the
asterisks (****) covering the password, we click Ok and we're in. But
what happens if we forget that password and need it again for
something. We either didn't write it down or forgot where it was
written. That's where Password Reveal comes in. Grab the target icon
with the mouse button, drop it on the password box and it uncovers the
password. Password Reveal works on programs, not Web Pages." Comment -
Didn't work with my test case, the passwords stored in my FTP accounts
in WS_FTP on a Windows XP Pro SP2 machine.

* http://www.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=console - "Allows you to
see the passwords behind most PassChar-protected text\editboxes in
memory (allowing you to see behind the "*****" fields). There is also a
stay-resident option, and a patch option that can actually remove the
PassChar protection from such password-protecting boxes on the fly."
Comment - Didn't work with my test case, the passwords stored in my FTP
accounts in WS_FTP on a Windows XP Pro SP2 machine. Command line tool.

* http://www.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=console - "PassDump is
similar to (and based on) PWReveal, but with just one goal - PassDump
simply dumps to the console the text from any PassChar-protected
textboxes that it can find." Comment - Didn't work with my test case,
the passwords stored in my FTP accounts in WS_FTP on a Windows XP Pro
SP2 machine. Command line tool.

* http://www.seelhofer.ch/mad/download/download.html - "Simple utility
to view passwords shown in asterisks (***)." Comment - Didn't work with
my test case, the passwords stored in my FTP accounts in WS_FTP on a
Windows XP Pro SP2 machine.

- "This wonderful little utility unmasks and reveals the password
hidden behind asterisks (***** characters). It successfully reveals the
password of FTP Client software like CuteFTP, FlashFXP, SmartFTP etc.
Open Kernel Password Unmask Software and then open the window having
password in asterisk form, as you open the password window the password
automatically reveals al hidden behind asterisks." Comment - Didn't
work with my test case, the passwords stored in my FTP accounts in
WS_FTP on a Windows XP Pro SP2 machine.

- - "ShoWin displays useful information about Windows by dragging a
cursor over them.Perhaps one of the most popular uses of this program
is to display hidden password edit box fields (text behind the
asterisks *****). This will work in many programs although Microsoft
have changed the way things work in some of their applications, most
notably MS Office products and Windows 2000. ShoWin will not work in
these cases. Neither will it work for password entry boxes on web
pages, at least with most web browsers.Additional features include the
ability to enable Windows that have been disabled, unhide hidden
Windows (try the program with the include invisibles option set and see
how many Windows you have on your desktop that you didn't know about!)
and force Windows to stay on top or be placed below others." Comment -
I'm not sure exactly how you see the passwords, except perhaps by
checking the "include Invisibles" and "Hide/Show" (Under the Right
Click Section) Window to make visible invisible Windows.

* http://www.ekremdeniz.com/pub/getpass.zip - "If you have forgotten
your dial-up connection passwords, or internet explorer saved
passwords, you may learn that passwords by this program."

* http://www.c2000.com/software/#win2000 - "Point this little
program at any password "*****" fields and reveal the real password
beneath it. Great for when it's stored but you can't remember what it
is."

this application is not useful for newer systems anymore."
