You should definitely try to match the first three characters of the serial number. I would also try to match the site code but if you can't find the same site I guess it's worth a try.

Does it matter if the site code is not a match ? 

First 3 digit of serial number ?

Yes and yes, but if everything else matches you should be okay with the site code (famous last words).

Site is important- with these drives LM (2.5) or DM (3.5) everything must match... And in a lot of these drives i see that the head adaptives are not a match either even if you have a perfect donor with everything. U might go through 2-4 donors before finding a real match and if u have access to the term cause these drive love to LED lock up n keep us outta there you cant even find out what the drives have. These drives suck - they are tough and almost every single one but 2 we have recovered... Just throwing my 2 cents in there - good luck though...

Also often worth examining heads under a microscope for signs of contact.
