Hi!

Today I received a WD40EZAZ VeniceR.

The drive spins up, then there is a slight click, and it starts spinning up again. over and over again.

I do not think this is a head-related issue, because I was able to unlock the ROM, load the loader, and read the service area, including module 190. I have copy 0,1 and compose

However, I’ll be honest — I haven’t had this HDD family in for a long time, and I simply don’t remember the further procedure. Could you advise me on how to proceed from here in order to solve the problem and gain access to the data?

The steps I performed, which unfortunately did not bring a positive result, were as follows:

  1. I removed the PCB from the drive.

  2. I connected the PCB to PC-3000.

  3. I blocked the SA.

  4. I mounted the PCB back onto the drive.

  5. I powered on the drive in PC-3000 — the drive came to READY and keeps spinning continuously.

  6. I loaded the loader.

  7. I started the drive in Normal Mode.

  8. I read the service area, including 190.rpm: copy 0, copy 1, and compose.

At this point I am still stuck and I do not know what the next step should be.

I would be grateful for your help.

I can't help you, but maybe someone might be able to spot the problem if you upload your SA resources.

Try disabling heads
Just h0
Then just h1
Test read write
You could write rom to donor board
Data may be encrypted but it might point to a board issue.
