Dear Connections,

I hope this message finds you well. I recently received a SK HYNIX 256GB SSD, but I am experiencing an issue. When I connect it to my system, it shows an error stating "Not Initialized." Upon attempting to initialize the drive, I encounter the error "Incorrect Function."

I would appreciate any suggestions or guidance you may have to help recover the data. For your reference, I have attached an image of the SSD.

Thank you for your assistance!

Best regards,

Why would anyone who understands anything about data recovery do that?

That's not a joke, dear. You may say I have little experience resolving it. So, I am sending this message to this data recovery community to get the support. So please let me know how can I resolve this issue.

I will be grateful to you.

Best regards
Nitin

If you want support, tell us where you are so we can recommend you a data recovery lab.

For data recovery, it is never recommended to initialize and format and so on, right?

Questions:
Do you have any tools, so that you don't mount directly to the machine?
Does the SSD initialize correctly?
Can you read any blocks of data successfully? If not, what error do you get in status register?
Did the customer say whether the files are encrypted? If so, what type of encryption?

Without details,  no meaningful help could be provided.

No offence here, but there are certain things in data recovery that are  the very basics and the cornerstone of any data recovery job.

  1. Don’t connect a drive direct to a motherboard, either via USB or SATA. Especially in Windows as CHKDSK can run and destroy the data, plus many other reasons.
  2. Never initialize a drive that you want to recover data from. You can deleted ALL the data by doing that.
  3. You cannot recover a drive without professional tools that doesn’t show any volume/size.
  4. SSDs either have firmware failure, which you need special tools for, or hardware failure and you need to test the PCB for component issues. 90% of the time it’s a firmware issue.
