Model : WDC WD40NMZW-59GX6S1
Serial : WD-WX11D97202ZA
Firmware : 01.01A01
Capacity : 4 TB (7 814 037 168)

I have this USB spyglass, dropped
converted to sata replaced heads
comes ready
the drive show 10 heads in utility
but in DE it shows H3 is greyed out
Seems weird

I could read sector 0 unencrypted - now after a few hundred gigs its reading zeros.
Any advice? Suggestions?

i have the resources from this drive.
It powers up I can load the ldr and dir from files
and get full ID
I did solve-slow-responding in RAM <<<< IS THIS A MISTAKE ?
I was able to read sectors unencrypted.
I ran a heads R/W test and it could read but not write <<< SO THAT MAKE it WRITE PROTECTED RIGHT?
SHOULDNT THAT PROTECT IT FROM DAMAGING ITSELF?
I built head map in DE
read the catalog
started imaging data in reverse ( in order to avoid damaged areas)
It read a few hundred GB
Then it stopped communicatng.
I go through the same steps and get FULL ID
but when I reread sector 0 now I get all zero sector.

What can I do now?
What should I have done differently to prevent this from happening again.
Where can I find the instructions for getting it reading again?
I re-read mod 190 and compared it to the origiinal mod 190 - ITS EXACTLY THE SAME CRC NO CHANGE.

Ace recommend not running slow responding on SMR drives as the FW architecture is different.

However I have seen them do it on SMRs, but I guess they know which ones they can and which they cannot.

Did you block UA writing?

190 does not use the same CRC as other mods, so it may well always be the same.

Did you compare 190s byte by byte or just rely on the CRC?

Did you rebuild the translator using T2.

When you build T2 what % of zero sectors does it find?

thanks tim

I did the slow responding in RAM - I thought that would be safe
189 and 190 were compared using an external crc utility - so its a byte-byte comparison
both are unchanged
I did not block UA..... guess I should have...
But the RW head test indicated the heads could read but not write.

How do I rebuild the translator using T2 ?

Thanks for the kind offer!

The case is not active right now
I think one of the issues was not having the 190...
let me check
