Dear gurus,

                     I have received 6tb WDC My book .Its no power condition. I have removed it from casing and attached to pc its no power. I have checked only pcb its power on and giving busy ready. don't have 6tb so i have tried this PCB to another 4tb 51 number pcb hdd .Its spinining and clicking as its from different capacity .But moral is drive is spining so PCB is good .I tried 4tb donor pcb to patient drive but its still not spnining.I tried 2tb hdd 51 number pcb and my patient is spinning .So where is the problem? Pls guide me for further diagnose .

Does the donor drive spin up if you isolate the heads? If yes, then try the same thing on the patient. If the patient drive spins up with an isolated preamp, then the preamp/heads must be bad.

Sir with isolating heads drive not spin getting ready very quick .So what is conclusion heads are bad ?

If this is the normal behaviour for a working drive, then this suggests that the firmware needs to detect a working HSA before it will spin the drive. Does the 2TB firmware behave the same way?

yes sir i have tried 2tb Aswell 4tb when i isolated heads drive won't spin up .

but strange is when i use 2tb pcb with its original rom drive spins .Ok so now i will give more try to check it again with writing again 2tb rom to its original n check as there is donor rom write on it .

It could be that neither the 2TB nor 4TB firmware will spin up the drive if they don't detect a preamp. However, in your case the 2TB f/w does spin your drive. Does this mean that the 4TB f/w tests the heads but the 2TB f/w does not? If so, wouldn't this suggest that the heads are bad?

The 2TB model would have less heads. Could it be that all the heads in the 2TB head map are good, and that one or more of the other heads are bad? The 4TB firmware would see all of the heads.

If you change the head map in the 4TB ROM to match the 2TB head map, and if the drive then spins up, this will prove that the drive has a head fault.

These drives won't spin up if heads are damaged.

If you can upload your 2TB and 4TB ROMs, we could compare the head maps and determine which heads are bad.

Disabling heads without inspecting the inside of the drive is a really bad idea.

The heads could be bent and can create a lot of damage if you allow them to sweep the surfaces.

ok sir there was problem with donor rom from 2tb so i am not able to check 2tb rom . so that i have taken this much time .But thank god this time i am lucky that this family adopt any compatible rom with same rom rev .I tried only one rom from another hard drive and my donor was up fully working as before .But now problem is that my customer is not ready to pay head replacement cost so i have to return his 6tb hdd.Thank you so much everyone showing interest in my post and giving valuable support and tips.Hope i will get same support in future for any other problem .Thank you so much  again .
