I have a Seagate ST500DM002 that came in dead, won't spin up. It had a burned chip on the PCB (100774000 REV A). I found a matching PCB and swapped the ROM from the original PCB to the donor. With PCB only it shows up in PC-3000 and is properly identified with capacity, model SN, etc. of drive. Install PCB on drive and power on. Drive spins up fine and sounds fine, but BSY register is stuck. The terminal output is:
Boot 0x20M
SpinUp
Trans
Rst 0x20M Thermistor Temp 001E
 Retry delay
 Retry delay
DOS:0 Scan Unit
    LD:
    PP:
LED:0x000000EE FAddr:0x003211FC
Rst 0x20M Thermistor Temp 001E
LED:0x000000EE FAddr:0x003211FC

And every few minutes I get another:

LED:0x000000EE FAddr:0x003211FC

I haven't been able to talk to the drive or make the drive ready. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Do you have terminal access?

I haven't been able to get the F3 prompt with the PCB connected to the drive. I do get the terminal output.with the drive connected, and I can get the F3 prompt without the drive connected.

Boot up the drive and immediately hold the Ctrl key down while repeatedly pressing the z key quickly over and over again. See if that gets you the terminal.

does the drive keeps on spinning or the motor shuts down after few seconds of boot attempt?

The drive spins up and stays spinning. Listening to it I hear the heads moving right after spin up like it initialized properly.

I tried pressing Ctrl+Z several times as the drive spins up already with no success. So I tried again to make sure, and I do briefly get the prompt, but just as the output is scrolling. I never get access to enter a command. If you look at terminal output, you can see 2 places where it shows the "F3 T>" and one of them is preceded by "Input_Command_Error".

if it keep on spinning most chances its FW problem but still maybe also weak heads hard to say.
Try to ask the Tech support in Ace labs if they've got the short points for this PCB in order to gain terminal access.
