Hello

The surface on head 0 is scratched, other surface and other platter are not damage.

Is it possible to revive the drive somehow using some technique ?

Thanks you.

Thoroughly clean all platters.

Cut off H0 on a donor set of heads.

Alter the head map in ROM to remove H0.

Pray..

As this is a Grenada you will need to pray hard…

Can you make one of these drives operate from SA on head1 surface ?

I have started to praying hard for this as customer is emotional.

What would you want to change in ROM parameters to accept no head 0 ?

Thanks you.

Its all described in the very underused Seagate F3 manual…

If the donor has the same preamp as patient but different first 3 on serial number, will the donor heads still usable in patient, or does the first 3 on serial number have to match as well ?

I believe the first character of the S/N is the manufacturing location. The second  character appears to reflect the number of heads/platters.

Indeed. First three characters are pretty much essential.

Thanks you.

What if the other way around, the first 3 serial donor match patient but preamp is different number ?

I have several donor that may match but I don't want to chop them up if they would never work in the first time.

Ok thanks you everybody.

First 3 on serial (1st number can get ignored) and then preamp first prefix (e.g. B6) must match for the donor to works inside patient drive.

Personally I think that depends on the drive model. Some are far more forgiving to different preamps.
