Wouldn't you then expect to see a "replay failure" message?

The ROM contains an NvCache region for power loss data protection. When the drive powers up again, it tries to flush the cache to the platters. If there is a problem, you will see a replay failure message in terminal. Your drive doesn't seem to have a problem in this regard, but I could be wrong.

A ROM dump might clear this up.
