I've retired and, among other things, now playing with some really old stuff.  Can anyone recommend a service that does 8" floppy recovery?  Not just able to do it  but really does this sort of thing routinely?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Bill,

Great to hear from you regarding the 8" floppies. I actually used those quite a bit during my studies.

As for finding a working drive or reader, you might have some luck checking with a museum, as they routinely handle and preserve vintage hardware.

Best regards,

Dinesh

Thanks for the reply.  I've got the equipment and, indeed, have gotten data off the particular floppy.  I'm looking for someone else that has solid experience in recovering data from these old floppies.  You mentioned museums - do you have any one in mind?
Thanks!
Bill

Well, the question was not really intended for a particular disk, but rather was more general in nature.  I have several 8" floppies of various types and from various sources.  I'll attach a photo of one which is not much help.  The label indicates a ss/sd, probably 3740 format (77 tracks of 26 sectors). It may have come off of an Intel MDS with ISIS-II filesystem.  I also have some SS/DDs, likely from a DEC PDP 11 using RT as well as some with an early FAT filesystem.
