Hello,
I know that to recover a drive with this type of issue, you theoretically need a PCB with the same firmware as the drive.
Are there any firmwares that are compatible with each other, or is there a workaround?
I'm having difficulty finding the right drive, and the customer is in a hurry.

Thanks in advance

Nico

Need the same firmware and the cache chip on the donor PCB has to be cleared, so you may need a whole drive to make sure that has happened.

Yes I was looking for a working drive.
I have about 10000 drives in stock but this is one isn't part of it.
I may have found one on a local marketplace

Thanks for the quick reply

I have several hundred packets of screws, nuts, washers and bolts which I've sorted over the years, but I can never find the right part for the job at hand.

So I did buy the correct drive on the second attempt (the first one they sent didn’t have the right FW).
Funny thing is, when I checked the Seagate manual to refresh the clearing NAND procedure, I noticed there was actually an SSHD patch in the utility and that a PCB swap was only recommended if this procedure failed. And… the procedure did work: about 5 minutes to get the drive cloning properly.

When I asked Acelab TS, they immediately suggested a PCB swap, which in the end meant a longer recovery time for the customer and extra cost for us (time spent finding the donor, plus the donor price).

Awesome.

This is data recovery life. It is hardly ever 100% smooth sailing, along with some cost and time inefficiencies occur.
