Hi everyone,

I am looking for recommendations on an ultrasonic cleaner and what fluid to use for cleaning out a drive where the lubrication layer has failed and is messing up the heads.

Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

And I guess I should be more specific in my questions.

Does anyone use the CC2000-X from Crest Ultrasonics to clean failed lubrication from platters?

I am curious if it is worth the investment or if I should source some 100% IPA.

I have never used that cleaner (and have never heard it used for hard drives). Most people use 100% IPA of HFE.

But if its just a bad lubrication layer you might want to clean the platters using a set of heads and HFE or IPA. Clean the heads, put them back in the drive, run if for a few minutes, take the heads out and clean them again. Rinse and repeat until the white debris is no longer present on the sliders. Then try a new set of heads. Obviously do not use damaged heads for this process.
