No unexpected fees for me. Ace Labs are always absolutely upfront with the charges. I purchased a PC3K from Deepspar and service was very good. I then purchased one from Ace Labs and again no issues.

Hey everyone -
For those who have purchased the PC-3000, can you tell me if you bought directly from Ace Labs or via Deepspar?
Ace Labs is touting discounts for buying multiple products and/or training, while Deepspar sent me this:
"We do a formal import into the US for every PC-3000 and cover all brokerage/import fees, so that we can guarantee that nothing will be charged on delivery. Our shipping cost might be a bit higher as a result at $200US.
I can offer you a copy of our firmware database if you go with us. It’s much larger than the default one that comes with the PC-3000 (about double at 20+GB vs 10GB). This can help improve your recovery rate in some cases."
Is their firmware database a good reason to go with them?
Has anyone who purchased via Ace Labs to America been hit with any import or other unexpected fees?
Thanks!

I think DHL has pretty much gone in the US, but are very big in the EU which is why they use them. DHL hand the package to other carriers for delivery in the US (most times). My last one came via FedEx.

DHL is a nightmare in the United States. Can anyone confirm that Ace uses DHL within the United States as well?

Hi Guys
Just wanted to put in my 10 cents about PC-3000 in general if any of you are thinking of buying it. I purchased my PC-3000 about 18 months ago and it really is a wonderful tool and I would not be without it. However be sure you are going to be able to use it. I get the feeling a lot of members on this forum are part-time data recovery as they are involved in IT work in general.
As many of you may have heard, it is a very difficult tool to use. Each hard drive manufacturer has its own interface in PC-3000, so the way you work with each manufacturer is like working with an entirely different UI’s. Different menus, different drop-downs, different methods. This can also be subdivided into categories such as Seagate Barracuda and Seagate F3. The manual for each of the drive manufacturers can be several 100 pages long.
The PC-3000 is primarily a firmware tool, and as Scott states on his course firmware recoveries are about 15% of total recoveries. With thanks to Seagate that is probably now a little higher, but not much. If a drive does have firmware problems, then a lot of times you can resolve the issues, but you need to keep the drive live and start up Data Extractor to get the data (DE is basically a DDI copy). There are ways to put a drive on standby and transfer the drive to a DDI, but this does not work a lot of times.
So I believe you need to buy DE at the same time as PC-3000. The Express has two channels which is useful as you can have two jobs running at the same time. In fact they now have a 4 channel version but it’s about $7,500.
I can say that after 18 months of working on the PC-3000 every day, I just about feel comfortable (but I always have been a slow learner…). It is also very dangerous in that as well as fixing firmware issues, you can cause a drive to be unrecoverable with an incorrect terminal entry.
So if you buy PC-3000 Express and DE (PC-3000 UDMA is no longer supported) it will cost you about $8,500. Support is free for the first year and then $1600/year after.
I am not saying you shouldn’t buy a PC-3000, if you consider the PC-3000 has two channels it’s like buying two DDI’s so there is not that much difference, but just make sure you have the business to justify the expense and the willingness to learn the software.
Wayne, Dallas, Frank etc may have some advice also.
