Resurrecting an older discussed thread here. I'm thinking of buying a hood as I think some companies will only deal with me if I have one.
Are most of you guys using horizontal or vertical?  Im looking at horizontal but I've read that it bothers the eyes. Any imput?

I've been looking at Kingsun brand from China and they are coming in way cheaper than most other brands. Anyone seen this one before?
At $750.00 that doesn't sound too outrageous for a new model.

It sure doesn't look like its a horizontal hood though judging from the back panel. I'm waiting for a clarification from the manufacturer.

I use horizontal-flow.
I wear glasses, so no problem with the eyes.

Hans:  is it cold working with the horizontal flow hood always blowing at you?

Not really; You see, flow needs not be that high. It's not like working against the wind.
Flow does need to be constant and not turbulent.

The biggest nuisance of working with my cabinet is
 -the noise
-the smell of the cleaning agenbts I use

Agreed. Ours still has the reminance of chemicals from where it used to work in... You get used to it - but way better working environment then say a tech bench and a kitchen table. Ours has a light which is nice and a large working space. Perfect for what we do and need it for. Its a laminar work bench. Got it for 800 on ebay used. Ill send pics if your interested?

I'm getting offered a deal from a guy that is bailing out on his recovery business and for $500 he is including a practically brand new vertical hood which looks really nice, some spindle unstick tools from HDRC and the original DVD of their course for $500.00.
The hood is 5 feet wide and looks new, My only concern is that its a vertical hood.
I would think a horizontal hood would be more appropriate for data recovery as verticals are usually used to protect the user from fumes....
Joseph I'd love to see your hood.

It seems that Laminar flow hood vendors couldn't care less what they sell.
I called and asked a few companies about types of applications for each style and they all said I should by their popular and didn't ask about the application.
Most recommended a vertical one even after hearing my data recovery application, but when I asked about particles falling from my head directly into the device because of the vertical flow they changed their recommendation to the horizontal one.

I guess they don't get too many data recovery customers.
