Hi Group Members..

Hope all doing fine ...
i have come across a case ,Seagate one touch 1tb  in which client has password protected using Seagate toolkit   ,but now has forgotten password ,needs data can u pls share your expertise in resolving this case pls ..

Can you share the model.  Is it one listed here?


If yes, it's SED and I don't know if there is a solution without the password.

Maybe DFL PCI-e X4 can remove as they have some workarounds for this situations.  Yes I have this card and its pretty good managing some workarounds for passwords.

It's a SED:


I would think that, if a password is set, then the original key (DEK) would be discarded and replaced with an encrypted key. If so, then recovery of the DEK would be impossible. The question then becomes, did Seagate correctly implement their security, or did they leave a backdoor, or did they screw up in some way (like WD)?

That's a great question..   I'm not sure that ACE would have a solution for this, maybe as we see less drives from Seagate that have SED turned on.
