It depends on the age, the newer spyglass drives are not supported by PC3K. The slightly older models are only partially supported by selecting the PebbleB family. The 0 Capacity issue is generally a translator problem.

I have not come across a Spyglass that is not supported yet (though the PebbleB family), although Fraser did have an unusual one the other day which was not SED. Chris do you have details of one that was not supported?

Tommy, first thing you need to do is convert the USB board to a SATA connection. Finding a matching SATA board is pretty much impossible, or you have to but a whole drive.

It is complex with these drives. There is a section in the PC3K blog about them.

You are converting the current USB board to a SATA connection.

If you buy a SATA board (drive) then you just need to swap the ROM.

That transfers to a 2060-800022 PCB and there are about five in the entire world. I ended up ordering one from some place in China and it took a few weeks but it worked fine. The user name on ebay was fangfuyi. Maybe he has another one.

If you look at the note at the bottom, they say it might not work with 4TB drives, just to make you aware.

The drive is supported but decryption isn't. You can switch off SED to make SA backups, fix slow responding and build a head map in DE. But then you need to switch on SED to recover data.

However I have not tried one with the PC3K version launched last week. So I may be talking out of my ass.

Just a quick note for everyone, these drives have a compatible sata pcb for the spyglass family 4TB drives.

The one I am working on was SED locked and has a weak head. Anyone have any luck with disabling heads in rom and getting the drive to initialize?
